Sheila Kauffmann
I have been dancing since the age of four. Some of my earliest memories are learning dances from Mary-Kate and Ashley movies, teaching them to my sister, and putting on performances for our family. Whenever someone asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, the answer was always the same, a dance teacher or a singer like Beyoncé.
I began my dance journey at a studio in South County from ages four to six, then continued dancing for many years at Our Savior Lutheran Church through high school. After graduating, a dear friend, Casey Lawson, introduced me to Starbound Dance Company and encouraged me to come dance with her. From the moment I walked through the doors in 2010, I knew I was home. Starbound quickly became more than a studio, it became family.
Over the years, I grew up and grew my family while dancing here. I am a proud mom of three amazing kids, a 13 year old son, a 9 year old son, and a 4 year old daughter who also dances at Starbound. I have an incredible husband of six years who fully supports my love for dance and teaching. Being a mom is one of my greatest joys, and I love teaching my kids dances and dancing with them at home. We always hoped the boys would dance too, but they decided it was not for them as they got older.
I began assistant teaching at the start of this dance season, and I absolutely love it. Seeing the dancers each week is the highlight of my time at the studio. Watching them learn, grow, and gain confidence in their movement and skills is so rewarding.
Being part of the Starbound Dance Company teaching team has truly been a beautiful opportunity, and I am so grateful to share my love of dance with the next generation.
